Dear Students,

We had our first Risk Profiling course conducted by Michael Tay. The course begun with Michael giving us a riddle.  His emphasis of the riddle was to help us to be aware that in general, adults thinking are normally over-exaggerated and complicated, and such behaviour may not help very often, especially in trading.  Trading systems must be simple and easy to adhere.

The course then escalated to the next level, trading mind games were conducted creating a highly interactive, student-centered learning to ensure maximum learning experience for each participant.

Subsequently, Michael then shared the factors affecting the risk appetite for traders and the strength and weakness related to the different risk profiles.  Proceeding further, team games were conducted to educate us on how team dynamics would work under different stress environments.  This is to demonstrate the vast difference between pros and cons of individual trading and the potential when trading as a team can provide.

Customised risk profiling questionnaires in 3 sections helped each and everyone of us assess our level of risk aptitude.  And it was it relatively amazing to discover the results I achieved from the profiling course was quite true to how I’m trading right now.

One of the statements highlighted in my assessed risk profile states "You have a risk-taking attitude suited to taking small bets. You have to develop strong money management strategies to match your risk-taking.”

Overall the course was entertaining, packed with high value learning and experience to me.  Michael's 32 years of trading experience really helped to show me how I should develop my trading career as I progress in my risk and trading profile.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Michael and the rest of the JFL team who have made this event a wonderful and eventful weekend for me.

Dear ATM students,

I would like to share experience I got during Risk Profile workshop with Michael Tay last Saturday. As a trader, I think it is crucial to understand my own risk profile and to be able to use it in my favor.

With a help of games and psychological tests, Michael Tay gave us a better understanding of ourselves, our risk profiles, internal and external factors influencing our trading.

Michael Tay explained how such important factors, such as age and family influence affect our risk profiles. He also taught us how to manage some of the challenging factors encountered most commonly by traders.

At the end of the day, my risk profile read as follows:

a.  I am risk tolerant. And I am better suited to take small bets using strong money management.

b.  Similarly to most traders, I would require the help of a trading team to support me.  However I am not a group player, as I would prefer to trade on my own.  Group discussion would be beneficial.

c.  I also have a conducive trading environment.

Knowing my risk profile, I would now use it to further enhance my trading and money management skills. I also found out the advantage to learn and develop new trading strategies through the help of a trading team.

I honestly recommend this session to all live traders so that you can better understand yourself and your risk profile. After knowing your risk taking appetite, you would then be able to manage the level of stress during trading and adjust your trading style accordingly.
